How To Fix PS2 Wireless DVD Remote Control Thats Not Working

Posted on 06:26 by Unknown

If you have bought a Sony ps2 DVD remote control to use with your ps2 console to control the DVD playback from the comfort of your own chair and you have setup it up, following the printed out instructions that are provided with the item and it's not working, then it can be frustrating when facing this problem. Today, i was trying to use my old ps2 fat style model, which i found while clearing out my loft and thought instead of it sitting in dust, i should use it as a DVD player for my spare room. So i hooked it up to my spare HD television, using a RGB scart cable and plugged it in. Then I bought an official Sony DVD remote for it, from my local game store and couldn't get it to work with the Playstation. Luckily after 30 minutes, i found a solution to the problem and want to share them with you.

1) First of all, check if there are any batteries inserted into the remote control. Sometimes there are no batteries included already inside the control. If this is the case, then insert fresh batteries into the remote control. Or sometimes the batteries that are supplied with the control in the packaging are dead because of being not used for a long time. Check them with a battery tester to see if they are dead or charged. If they are dead then replace them, if they are not dead, then move onto the other solutions provided below.

2) Check if your ps2 console has a IR sensor because some older first generation fat models don't have them built in. If you have a newer slimline version, then it's not the problem because they all have built in sensors. If you bought a used remote control designed for the ps2 fat and don't have a plug in sensor, then i am afraid you can't use it, unless you find a remote sensor that plugs into the controller port.

3) Make sure that you are using the remote control within 15 feet, if you go out of that distance, it will not communicate with the console, which could be the problem. So try this time to use the remote control closer to the ps2 console and point it towards the direction where the IR sensor is placed.

4) If you tried all the above and still no luck trying to get it to work, then the remote control can be faulty. So your best bet would be to take it back to the store to replace it or buy a brand new one.
