The PSP console runs on a software operating system, which runs on a particular official firmware version out of the box. Every so often, the developers at Sony will release newer firmware versions that you can download for free on their website and install onto your PSP console. Newer firmware versions always include performance improvements and newly added features, which previous firmware versions don't include. So to ensure that your PSP console is running the latest firmware version, firstly you will need to identify what the current firmware version it is running on. That way you can work out if the current firmware version on your PSP needs to be updated or not.
Instructions on How To Identify Your PSP Firmware Version
1) Power on your PSP console by flicking the power switch upwards. Wait for the PSP console to boot onto the XMB menu.
2) Using the left button on the D-pad, navigate through the XMB menu and go to 'Settings'.
3) Once the XMB menu is on 'Settings', using the down button on the D-pad, scroll through the different options until you find 'System Settings'. Once you have found 'System Settings', press the 'X' button to select it.
4) Using the down button on the D-pad, scroll through the different options until you find 'System Information'. Once you have found 'System Information', press the 'X' button to select it. The PSP screen will now display information based on its mac address, system software firmware version and nickname.
