No Device Detected in Linux

This means that the kernel does not see a device, or the device is not Mass Storage.

Solution:

  1. Connect a flash/pen drive or card reader to the OTG.  Hard drives may not work due to power requirements.
  2. Try another OTG cable.  The cable could have broken pins.
  3. Try another USB device.  The device may be broken or not Mass Storage.

Notes for the Nexus 7 2013:

I've discovered several devices that are not compatible with the Nexus 7 2013.  Not pictured are Integral card readers (only available in the UK).  The Kingston DT Micro and the DigiPower Reader work fine on my Nexus 7 2012, but the others should probably be avoided.
