How To Fix PS2 Disc Tray Thats Making a Grinding Noise / Sound

Posted on 04:53 by Unknown

The old fat style PS2 console uses a disc tray to load games into the disc drive. Overtime, the PS2 disc tray will become a little rusty, due to opening and closing numerous times over the years of hard use of the console. You will notice that when you press the eject button to pop out the disc tray, you will hear an awkward grinding noise. This is because the metal rods the disc tray uses to move on have become dirty and have no lubrication on them. Adding lubrication onto the metal rods will reduce friction and allow the disc tray to open and close smoothly, getting rid of the noise. Thankfully, if you own a PlayStation 2 slimline console, you don't have to worry about this kind of problem, since it uses a flap.

1) Press the 'Eject' button to open the disc tray. Once the disc tray opens, remove the 'Game Disc' placed inside it and put it back into the DVD case.

2) Turn the PS2 console upside down, so the blue PS2 logo is facing downwards. Look at the disc tray, you will see two metal rods that are placed on both the left and right sides of it.

3) Get some lubrication oil and pour a sensible amount onto one end of a cotton bud. Then using the lubricated side of the cotton bud, gently run it downwards and upwards on both metal rods. This method will apply an even amount of lubrication liquid across all areas of the metal rods.

4) Now press the 'Eject' button and open and close the disc tray 6 times. This will lubricate the disc drive rods properly, so the lubrication runs all the way down the rods and into its mechanism. If you notice that the noise still occurs, then apply more lubrication until the noise becomes minimized.
