If the wlan switch is not turning on the Wi-Fi on the psp console, when switched in the on position, there is a problem. Most of the time the wlan switch will not work because there is dust inside the switch and connector. So the first thing you should try is to clean it, before replacing it.
To clean the wlan switch, you will need to dissemble your psp console; this will void the warranty on your psp. The tools that are required to open up the console are: a small sized Philips screwdriver, a can of compressed air and a small pair of pointy tweezers.
Once you have the tools, you are ready to take your psp apart and repair the broken switch, I have provided instructions below:
1)Remove both the memory stick and umd disc from the console.
2)The remove the battery lid and then the pack, so you can locate the four screws that hold the front faceplate, found behind the battery pack. Once you have found them, using your screwdriver, unscrew all four screws.
3)Once unscrewed, place them somewhere that they can’t go lost. Then locate the other two screws on the right side of the back of the psp console. Once found, unscrew them all using your screwdriver.
4)Using your hands, gradually remove the faceplate, once it has been removed, you will see the wlan switch exposed.
5)Unscrew the screw that is holding down the screen plate, using your screwdriver. You have to remove the screen plate because the wlan switch connector is located underneath the screen plate.
6)Now you will see a connector from the wlan switch that is connected into the motherboard, what you need to do is pull the connector in the upwards direction,to remove it.
7)Once removed, using a can of compressed air, spray it on the connecter on the motherboard and also spray on the wlan switch. Once you have cleaned it out, replace the screen plate and insert the battery pack into your psp, then switch on the wlan switch, by flicking it on the turned on position and power on the console. Do a test like connect your psp console to your wireless router, using the internet browser. If it works replace the faceplate and insert all the screws back into the screw holes and using a screwdriver screw tight. Then replace the battery lid.
If you have tested the wlan switch and it is still not working, it is broken, so order a replacement switch, remove the old switch and fit the new one.
Hi, what happens if it’s the physical silver switch on the left-hand side of my PSP that has come loose (it has two dots and an arrow) Meaning that when I attempt to connect to the internet it prompts me to turn it on, even when the switch is in the correct position. Will ordering an internal switch fix this (if so, will it require soldering and I assume dismantling) Old post this but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be much more on this so any help would be appreciated.
