If you are going to replace the battery in your smoke alarm because you have pressed the test button and the smoke alarm doesn't beep, you will need to replace the dead battery with a brand new replacement battery and in order for you to do that, you will need to open your smoke alarm.
Instructions:
1) Remove the smoke alarm from the location it is currently mounted onto. If it is a wall or ceiling, you will need to pull the smoke alarm from the bracket holding it in place.
2) Once you have removed the smoke detector from the mounted location, locate the battery compartment door, this is found at the rear of the smoke alarm. Once you have located the battery door, open it and remove the old battery, using your fingers.
3) Then insert the replacement battery into the battery snap and close the battery compartment door and attach the smoke alarm back onto the bracket.
4) If your smoke alarm doesn't have a battery compartment door, the battery is behind the plastic housing. So get a small flat head screwdriver and the insert the head into each side of smoke alarm, this will undo the clips that hold the cover in place.
5) Then remove the old battery from the battery snap, and insert your new replacement battery onto the snap and close the lid shut. Then attach the smoke alarm back onto the bracket.
